Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485): 2026 Guide

The 485 Temporary Graduate visa: 2–3 years after a degree or 18 months after a VET course, age 35 or under, A$5,750 charge and how to apply.

The Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) lets international students who have recently finished study in Australia stay on to live, work and study. You find your own job, with no employer sponsorship. Many graduates use the 485 to gain the Australian work experience they need for a 482, 186 or points-tested visa.

The 485 visa charge is A$5,750 for the main applicant (from 1 July 2026, first application).

The Two Main Streams

Hong Kong and British National (Overseas) passport holders can stay for 5 years. Indian nationals have stay periods set by the Australia–India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement. A Second Post-Higher Education Work stream gives some graduates who studied and lived in regional Australia extra time.
